THE CHALLENGE

In 2008, TechnologyFX was engaged to consult with the Capital Chemist Group, a growing community pharmacy chain based in Canberra, ACT.

While TechnologyFX had previously worked with individual stores on a transactional basis, the group identified the need for a more structured, consistent approach to IT across both the group and store levels.

As the organisation grew, it became clear that:

  • Technology standards varied between stores
  • IT systems lacked consistency and central visibility
  • Infrastructure instability was contributing to downtime and lost trading time

At the same time, Capital Chemist recognised the opportunity to consolidate systems and make better use of data generated through Point of Sale and dispensing platforms.

The group also wanted to improve collaboration across stores and adopt cloud-based solutions to support modern working practices.

The Solution

TechnologyFX engaged with Capital Chemist at both the group and store levels to gain a detailed understanding of the organisation’s operating model and requirements.

A standardised technology template was developed to provide a robust and consistent foundation for all sites.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Architecture of HP Point of Sale systems with commercially graded hardware
  • Implementation of server solutions with built-in redundancy at each site
  • Design and rollout of a customised managed services solution to proactively identify and resolve issues
  • Consolidation of Point of Sale systems to create a single source of data across the group

To support collaboration and cloud adoption, TechnologyFX implemented Microsoft 365 and virtualised server technology to manage central applications and data storage.

Security, redundancy, and ongoing management were delivered through TechnologyFX’s managed services, reducing the risk of data loss and security incidents.
